KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 173,563 tonnes of cargo comprising 118,923 tonnes of import cargo and 54,640 tonnes of export cargo including 7,375 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargos of 118,923 tonnes comprised of 62,758 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,719 tonnes of DPA; 4,331 tonnes of rock phosphate; 7,826 tonnes of wheat and 39,289 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 54,640 tonnes comprised of 27,214 tonnes of containerised cargo and 27,426 tonnes of clinker.

As many as 7,375 containers comprising of 4,474 containers import and 2,901 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,395 of 20's and 1,419 of 40's loaded while 75 of 20's and 83 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 658 of 20's and 477 of 40's loaded containers while 367 of 20's and 461 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were four ships namely Clemens Schulte, Cosco Belgium, Captain Karam and Oingoussian Star carrying containers, rock phosphate and mogas respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were six vessels viz. Hyundai Jakarta, Bomar Milion, Bow Tribute, Navy Sunny, Xin Shou Hai and Genius Star carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There are four ships namely Dubai Charm, Saxonia, Greenwich Bridge and Bow Tribute carrying containers and oil tanker respectively expected to sail on Thursday.

There are six vessels viz. Visa Moon, Castor-N, Cosco America, Ubena, Doric Breeze and Asavari carrying containers, oil tanker and lab equipment respectively due to arrive on Thursday while seven more vessels viz. MSC Hina, Northern Discovery, George Washington, MT Karachi, MT Shalamar, Al Mahboobah and Cordula Jocab carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical and mogas respectively are expected to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 152,934 tonnes comprising 120,634 tonnes of import cargo and 32,300 tonnes of export cargo including 3,250 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 120,634 tonnes includes 42,620 tonnes of coal; 2,000 tonnes of LPG; 6,057 tonnes of palm oil; 13,000 tonnes of soyabean; 2,380 tonnes of palm kernel; 24,400 tonnes of gasoline; 727 tonnes of project cargo and 29,450 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 32,300 tonnes includes 32,300 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,250 containers comprising of 1,550 containers import and 1,700 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There was one ship namely Gas Athena carrying gasoline sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while six more ships namely Maersk Pittsburgh, MSC Pina, IVS Swinley Forest, Bunga Lily, Pan Harmony and Alpine Percefone carrying containers, coal, soyabean, palm kernel and gasoline respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of nine ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, steel coil, coal, soyabean, LPG, gasoline, palm kernel and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as nine vessels viz. George Washington, Nord Magellan, IVS Naruo, Elim Peace, Emden-IV, Kamari, Hasan, Amsterdam and Asia Marine carrying containers, coal, cement and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were eight ships viz. George Washington, Maersk Bentonville, Nord Magellan, Emden-IV, Yasa Saturn, Al Daayen, Al-Soor-II and Amsterdam carrying containers, coal, cement, chemical, LNG, gas oil and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, Engro Elengy Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There were two ships namely Maersk Bentonville and Yasa Saturn carrying containers and chemical respectively due to arrive on Thursday.
