LARKANA/SUKKUR: A team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) raided Sindh Minister for Auqaf Sohail Anwar Siyal's Larkana residence on Wednesday on the charge of making assets in excess of income.
The raid was aimed at gathering evidence in connection with the bureau's ongoing assets beyond means inquiry against the minister, they said.
Sources said the national graft buster's team carried out a thorough search of the building and took into custody important documents.
According to details, the NAB team stayed at Sohail Anwar Siyal's residence for hours and searched each room. Authorities said the raid was carried out in a case of disproportionate assets. Important documentary evidence was found during the operation.
Speaking to a private channel, Siyal said he had obtained pre-arrest bail from the Sindh High Court (SHC) in the assets case. Rejecting charges of owning any benami assets, he said his property was not benami as he had acquired it from his father who had declared the same with Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
He lamented that his father's declared property is being billed benami and refused to share any details about the raid saying he had no information about it as he was in Mirpurkhas. He denied that the NAB team collected any documents.
Last year in June, the Sindh High Court had granted protective bail to Sohail Anwar Siyal in the assets case.
Meanwhile, there are reports that the NAB team has also raided the house of Asad Kharal, the front-man of provincial minister Sohail Anwar. According to sources, Asad Kharal is a shareholder in several business matters with Sohail Anwar Siyal. A raid has been carried out to investigate the property of Asad Kharal.
