New weather system to hit Karachi in next 48 hours, will bring heavy rains: PDMA

(Karachi) A new weather system will likely hit Sindh, including Karachi during next 48 hours that will bring heavy downpour, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued alert on Sunday.

As per details, the PDMA has asked concerned institutions to finalise arrangements to cope with the situation of urban flooding expected in major cities including Karachi and Hyderabad.

It stated that under the influence of the system, widespread rains will lash Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benzairabad, Dadu, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Sukkur and Larkana Division.

Earlier, the Meteorological Department issued warning that the city will receive heavy rains with thunder, lightning and gusty winds from August 29 to 31.

In its new advisory, the Met office said a new monsoon spell will enter the city on August 29 (Saturday) which will bring more rains. It stated that the next spell of monsoon system will continue till August 31 (Monday).

It added that strong monsoon currents will continue to penetrate in the country during the current week.

It said that the under the influence of the new weather system, the situation in the metropolis could further aggravate existing urban flooding and water-logging. As per the forecast, heavy downpour may generate flash flooding in Sibbi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella and Dera Ghazi Khan.
