KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 112,030 tonnes of cargo comprising 80,489 tonnes of import cargo and 31,541 tonnes of export cargo including 3,951 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargos of 80,489 tonnes comprised of 27,525 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,201 tonnes of general cargo; 13,980 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 37,783 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 31,541 tonnes comprised of 16,195 tonnes of containerised cargo; 14,746 tonnes of bulk cargo and 600 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,951 containers comprising of 1,865 containers of import and 2,086 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 756 of 20's and 554 of 40's loaded while 01 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 364 of 20's and 181 of 40's loaded containers while 404 of 20's and 478 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were two ships namely Kota Kaya and Xin Hong Kong carrying containers sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessel carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 136,964 tonnes comprising of 112,264 tonnes of import cargo and 24,700 tonnes of export cargo including 1,900 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 112,264 tonnes includes 52,425 tonnes of coal; 25,124 tonnes of LNG; 1,135 tonnes of furnace oil; 4,000 tonnes of palm oil; 15,000 tonnes of soyabean; 2,755 tonnes of LPG; 425 tonnes of general cargo and 11,400 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 24,700 tonnes includes 24,700 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 1,900 containers comprising of 600 containers import and 1,300 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

There were three ships namely Epic Sardinia, Ejnan and Horizon carrying chemical, LNG and palm oil respectively sail out to sea on Friday morning, while two more ships namely Express Rome and Nord Kitan carrying containers and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of ten ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, general cargo, coal, soyabean, LPG, LNG, furnace oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as eleven vessels viz. Xin Hong Kong, Da Kang, Energy Glory, Chemroad Hawk, Gas Athena, Amber, APA Nemo, Gulf Horizon, MT Lahore, Chem Ocean Orion and Asia Aspara carrying containers, steel coil, soyabean, chemical, LPG, gasoline, gas oil, furnace oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were five ships viz. MSC Noa, Xin Hong Kong, Chemroad Hawk, Asia Aspara and MT Lahore carrying containers, chemical, palm oil and furnace oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Friday. There is one ship namely Manet carrying containers due to arrive on Saturday.
