US MIDDAY: soya soars

Published Updated

US soyabean futures held firm near a 5-month high on Thursday due to robust soyabean export sales and to a dollar weakened by optimism about a Greek bond swap. Wheat and corn turned weak after posting gains early in the session as traders exited at least a portion of their long positions before the release on Friday of a US government report on global crop production and ending stocks data.
At 11:05 a.m. CST (1605 GMT) Chicago Board of Trade March wheat was down 2 cents per bushel at $6.31 per bushel, March corn was down 3-1/4 at $6.40-1/2 and March soyabeans were up 4-3/4 at $13.26-1/4. USDA's weekly export report showed US exporters sold more than 1.6 million tonnes of US soyabeans to overseas customers last week, well above estimates for 400,000 to 700,000 tonnes. The export sales number for soyabeans was 85 percent more than the previous week and 56 percent above the four-week average. The sales data included nearly a half million tonnes to China, the world's largest importer of soyabeans.
