Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) has urged the government to enact a law for the protection of rights of rural female workers who work 16 long hours daily in the field but given half of the wages as compared to their male counterparts. KBP offered, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) working for the rights of rural female workers, should join the Board and work for the rights of both male and female village workers, said KBP Central President Sardar Zafar Hussein Khan.
Sardar Zafar was talking to a delegation of rural female workers who called on him under the leadership of KBP Central Secretary Information Haji Muhammad Ramzan. KBP President said rural women work side by side their male partners as they help in milking the animals, sowing and harvesting of crops and also run the affairs of the home.
Similarly, hundred of thousands of poor rural women work in the fields to earn livelihood for their family and children but they are given half the wages as compared to male workers. Zafar alleged that certain NGOs working for women rights but never spoke about rural women. They are just focused on collecting funds and arrange seminars or functions.
He said KBP not only represent the growers and farmers but also work for those doing any sort of labour or profession in rural areas. KBP president urged the government to ensure equal payment to both rural male and female workers and also reduce their working hours from 16 to 08 hours only. He said that not only government should enact a legislation to protect rights of rural female workers but the NGOs working for women should pay attention on real issues facing by the rural woman.
