Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) spokesperson on Thursday has strongly refuted claims that MQM chief Altaf Hussain had never received money from any individual, inter-services intelligence (ISI) or any other agency that operated under the aegis of Government of Pakistan.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the spokesperson said that the fact was that the agencies had in past made efforts to decoy MQM Chief with money but they could not succeed while in 1988, Brigadier Imtiaz (retd) had at the behest of ISI former Director General (DG), General, Hameed Gul (retd), had called on Hussain and tried to deliver money to him but again Hussain had refused to accept that money, which was endorsed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan by former ISI, DG, General, Asad Durrani (retd), as the later had submitted an affidavit on the subject matter in the Supreme Court of Pakistan wherein he had negated such claims.
The affidavit contained names of various politicians of the country but it did not contain name of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain. The affidavit was still part of record of SC. He said that all allegations levelled by Mehran Bank former President, Younus Habib, that money was delivered to Hussain through Yousuf Advocate was nothing but a pack of lies and was baseless, which has been condemned vehemently.
He said that Hussain's refusal to accept any pecuniary assistance from the intelligence agencies had become a sin, which some sections of the society used to distort Hussain's image and mislead the masses with fake claims. He said that MQM leadership was satisfied that the allegations were simply baseless and in this regard, they are ready to engage in debate on that issue on any forum just for the sake of making things clear.
