'Government making efforts to provide basic facilities to labourers'

Provincial Minister for Labour Haji Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi said on Wednesday that the Punjab government was making efforts to provide state-of-the-art health care, education and best residential facilities to the labourer community. He expressed these views at a reception at Labour Welfare Board in Iqbal Town on Wednesday.
The minister said that special attention is being paid to solve the labourers problems, therefore on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, public facilitation centers have been established in every department. He said that the government was providing required funds for the completion of on-going development projects launched by the labour department, whereas, new welfare schemes would also be initiated specially for the provision of modern education to the children of labourers and residential facilities to them. The minister said that a labour colony consisting of 1296 houses at a cost of Rs 2177 million has been constructed for workers on Defence Road Lahore and the flats will be distributed among the labourers through transparent balloting. Qureshi said that all basic and modern residential facilities will be available to the workers in defence labour colony and workers welfare schools will be set up for the children of workers.
