Hike in POL and gas prices, electricity rates: JI holds countrywide protest rallies
Countrywide protests were held on Sunday against the increase in POL and gas and prices besides hike in electricity tariff, on the appeal of JI Ameer Munawar Hasan. Protest rallies and meetings were held in big cities of the country including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Khanewal and Bahawalpur.
Senior JI leaders while addressing the rallies, condemned frequent increase in POL and gas prices and electricity rates.
Addressing a big public meeting in Khanewal, Munawar Hasan said that the so called opposition was silent on the increased rates, which he alleged was being done on the dictation of IMF and World Bank.
In Lahore, a rally was held outside the Lahore Press Club. JI Lahore chief Amirul Azeem, in his address, said that the present government had been constantly raising the prices of POL and gas besides electricity tariff, which was forcing the poor to commit suicide.
The rally in Peshawar was addressed by JI provincial chief Professor Ibrahim Khan. He said that if the rulers did not control the price hike, the hands of the poor people would be on their throats.
