Arbab didn't cast his vote

Published Updated

The self-exiled Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Likeminded (PML-L) Arbab Ghulam Rahim didn't cast his vote in the Senate election, on Friday for being in London. The Senate election was held at committee room-1 of Sindh Assembly. The Senate election was held due to non-withdrawal by three candidates of PML-L.
PPP, MQM and PML-F had tried their best to convince Arbab but to no avail. Had PML-L candidates withdrawn, 10 more candidates of PPP, MQM and PML-F would have come unopposed, observers said. Many political observers were expecting that Arbab Rahim would come to Pakistan and cast his vote. Only four MPAs of Arbab's party cast their votes.
PML-L's four lawmakers - Nuzhat Pathan, Abdul Razaq Rahimoon, Chetan Mal and Arbab Zulifqar cast their votes to party candidates Abdul Ghafar Qureshi (general), Yasmeen Farukh (women) and Photmal (non-Muslims). According to election results, three PML-L candidates received four each votes in polling while candidates of PPP, MQM and PML-F secured majority votes.
Abdul Ghafar Qureshi told Business Recorder although we will lose the elections but contesting the Senate election has proved PML-L existence in Sindh Assembly. He said PML-L was hoping that Asif Ali Zardari would follow the reconciliation policy and give us one seat of Senate but it didn't happen and now it's a fact that reconciliation policy is only for those who can disturb the government. The lawmaker of PML-L Abdul Razzaq Rahimoon said he and other MPAs of the party were informed that Arbab Rahim would not come to cast his vote.
