THE RUPEE: dollar moves up

As a result of higher demand for dollars rupee drifted lower on the money market on Friday, dealers said. The rupee fell in terms of dollar, losing three paisa for buying and selling at Rs 90.98 and at 91.01, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee continued slide against dollar shedding five paisa more against dollar for buying and selling at 91.00 and 91.20, they said. In relation to euro the rupee, however, gained 80 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 120.40 and Rs 121.40, they said. In final Asian trade, according to the Reuters, yen slipped broadly and neared a recent nine-month low versus dollar, retreating due to yen-selling by Japanese importers and as traders took aim at stop-loss levels.
The dollar rose 0.4 percent against yen to 81.44 yen, nearing a nine-month high of 81.661 yen hit earlier this week on trading platform EBS. The dollar was available versus the Indian rupee at Rs 49.46, it was at 3.0015 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency in relation to the Chinese yuan was at 6.2976.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee maintained downward slide and was further declined by 10-paisa against the US dollar in the local currency market on Friday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar was opened on a positive note and appreciated its worth because of rising demand. At the end of trading, the dollar was closed higher at Rs 91.00 and Rs 91.20 against the overnight closing of Rs 90.90 and Rs 91.10, respectively.
However, the rupee staged recovery and was improved on the buying side while it remained unchanged on the selling side in relation to the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 144.00 and Rs 145.00 as compared to Thursday closing of Rs 144.20 and Rs 145.00, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The value of dollar against the rupee remained unchanged at the local currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Friday.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 91 (buying) and Rs Rs 91.20 (selling) against same overnight value. Ever-favorite greenback did not witness any further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 91 (buying) and Rs 91.20 (selling).
Pound Sterling resumed trading at Rs 142 (buying) and Rs 142.50 (selling) against same previous rate. British currency did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 142 (buying) and Rs 142.50 (selling).
