Six killed in new wave of violence

At least six persons including two activists of banned outfit Sipah Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) and a worker of Sunni Tehreek (ST) lost their lives in different incidents of targeted killings in the city on Friday. Police said, two activists of SSP were killed at Buffer Zone in the limits of Taimoria police station. The incident took place at Shadman Town on early Friday where 25-year-old Qari Jalal Ahmed and 35-year-old Irfan were targeted by unidentified attackers.
Resultantly, both received fatal bullet wounds and succumbed to their injuries on the spot. Police shifted the victims to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities. SHO Kamal Naseem said the victim Qari Jalal was the resident of Scout Colony, Gulshan Iqbal and at the time of incident he was on the way to Kausar Niazi Colony, North Nazimabad to drop his friend Irfan. He said both were the activists of banned outfit SSP.
Meanwhile, Maulana Taj Hanfi, spokesman of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), formerly known as SSP said the victims, were going home after attending a meeting of ASWJ when they were chased and targeted by unidentified men. He condemned the killings and demanded of the government to arrest the killers.
A case 62/11 was registered against unidentified persons on the complaint of Qari Jalal's relative Khalid Mehmood. In a similar incident, an activist of ST was shot dead at Jut Line in the limits of Brigade police station. The victim, 24-year-old Sajid Ali Siddiqui, son of Shakir Siddiqui, was targeted outside his home. Sajid Ali died on the spot, while his friend Nomi survived the attack. The victim was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where scores of ST workers gathered and protested the killing.
SHO Ghulam Rasool Sayal claimed that the victim's family had denied his affiliation with any political or religious party. Later police handed over his body to the heirs. Meanwhile, spokesman of ST Fahim Sheikh said the victim was an active worker of Lines area sector unit 197. Police registered an FIR 35/12 against Shehzad, Danish, Wasi and others on the complaint of the victim's father. Following the incident, tension gripped various parts of the area where all major shops and markets were closed.
In another incident, a woman was gunned down by bandits at Murtaza Chowrangi Landhi in the limits of Sharafi Goth police station. The incident took place on early Friday, when unknown attackers tried to intercept a car and on resistance opened firing. Resultantly 35-year-old Azra Bibi wife of Fazal died on the spot while her brother-in-law Afzal received injuries.
The victim was shifted to JPMC for medico legal formalities and later handed over to her family. Police said the victim was a resident of Gulshan Rafi. Police registered an FIR 43/12 against unidentified men on the complaint Fazal. 18-year-old Sohail Baloch, son of Yousuf Baloch, was shot dead at Jan Mohammad village in the limits of Gulbahar police station.
According to police the victim had had a quarrel with his friend Abdul Razzak and after exchange of hot words, both opened firing on each other. Resultantly both received bullet wounds. Sohail succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).
Police said the victim was the resident of Saleh Mohammad Village old Golimar. Later police handed over his body to the heirs. No case was registered till filing of this report. In yet another incident, a slaughtered body was found from the slum area of Sikandarabad in the jurisdiction of Liaquatabad. The victim was identified as Irfan, 28 son of Yousuf, who was a resident of Orangi Town. Police suspected that the victim, who had a money dispute with his friend Amir, might have been murdered on the same ground.
