Director Centre of Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), UK Grahan Massie and Consultant CEDR Baria Ahmad gave a detailed presentation to the judges of Lahore High Court and District and Session judges on Friday. The programme was organised in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Islamabad.
The presentation was given in the areas of Altelrnate Dispute Resolution, Mediation, Court Annexed Mediation, Support and Ownership of High Court required in court annexed system, Framing Rules on ADR, identification of cases for mediation, case referrals and enforcement and return to the Court and Case Management-Data Collection.
The IFC developed manual and guidelines on ADR were also distributed among the participant judges. Project Officer IFC Asfandyar Ali, Saima Zubairi, Associate Operations Officer and Reshma Aftab, Project Analyst also spoke on the occasion. Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed has constituted a committee of two senior judges namely, Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah for deliberations and further developments.
Lahore High Court is in the process of developing a Court Annexed ADR Centre. After the pilot ADR Project in Karachi, Lahore has been chosen as project site for institutionalising mediation. An hour-long presentation by foreign experts provided an opportunity to the participant judges to have an informal discussion with CEDR experts and faculty to share thoughts about the upcoming Court Annexed ADR Centre.
