Government committed to meeting housing needs of people: Prime Minister

Prime Minister, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Thursday said his government is committed to meet the housing needs of government servants and people of low-income groups. He was addressing the groundbreaking event of Kurri Road Housing Scheme aimed at catering to the housing needs of retired senior civil servants.
The scheme has been launched by Pakistan Housing Authority and comprises of three categories of housing units specified for grade 20, 21 and 22 on ownership basis and at a very reasonable price. Gilani said decent living is the dream of every citizen and it is the responsibility of the state to explore all available options to satisfy this need. He said it has been government's endeavour to involve the private sector in this regard and benefit from their expertise.
The establishment of public-private partnership on sustainable basis is the ultimate objective of the present government, he said. "I believe we can achieve more by working on joint ventures," he said and directed PHA to collaborate with the private sector for implementation of Prime Minister's Housing Scheme.
He recalled that in his first speech in the National Assembly he had pledged that the government would provide affordable housing to people of low and fixed income groups on ownership basis. He said this promise is in line with the vision of great leaders Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who always championed cause of people and wanted to ensure this by all means. The PM highlighted that Pakistan People's Party was founded on the slogan of "Roti, Kapra aur Makan" and the democratic government remains committed to implementation of this slogan. He termed groundbreaking of Kurri Housing Scheme is a milestone in realising the vision into reality. "This government wants everyone to have not just a roof over their head, but a place where they can live a decent life," he remarked.
