NA, provincial assemblies' by-election: 13th last date to receive postal ballot applications

The Election Commission on Friday issued last date for receiving applications for postal ballot papers for by-election to the National/Provincial Assemblies constituencies as February 13, 2012. These constituencies are no. NA-9 Mardan-I, NA-140 Kasur-III, NA-148 Multan-I, NA-149 Multan-II, NA-168 Vehari-II, NA-195 R. Y. Khan-IV, PP-44 Mianwali-II and PS-53 Tando Muhammad Khan-cum-Hyderabad.
Under the law, the facility has been extended only to the persons in government service, members of Armed Forces, holders of public offices, their wives and their children that are registered voters and ordinarily reside with them. This is with the condition that they are stationed at a place other than the place in which their constituency is situated. Persons detained in prison or held in other custody are also entitled to vote by postal ballot.
The last date for polling and police personnel that are posted at a polling station other than the one, at which they are entitled to cast their vote, has been fixed as February 17, 2012. Persons that are appointed to act as Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers and Polling Officers and Police Personnel assigned duties at polling stations are advised to apply for postal ballot by February 17, 2012. By this time, their appointments as polling personnel are expected to have been finalised and indicated to them.
Applications for postal ballot should be made on the prescribed form with the Returning Officer concerned. Application Forms for postal ballot can be obtained from the said Returning Officer. The voters to whom postal ballots are issued will not be entitled to vote in person at the polling stations. The application should be forwarded/endorsed by the office/ department of the voter concerned to guard against unauthorised person applying for postal ballot. -PR
