Gas price raise: LHC seeks replies by February 6

Lahore High Court here Friday sought replies from federal government and Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) by February 6 in a petition challenging recent increase in gas prices. A bar member, Mian Asad Muhammad, contended that Ogra increased gas prices in January and February in violation of basic human rights.
He said that masses are already suffering from price hike and the increase would disturb routine life of poor people. He, therefore, prayed to the court to suspend the notification issued in this regard. The petitioner also sought directions to federal government to sack Minister for Petroleum, Dr Asim Hussain for mishandling shortage of gas, causing a countrywide uproar.
