At least six persons including two activists of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ) formerly known as Sipah Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) and a cop fell prey to targeted killings at various parts of the metropolis, here on Tuesday. According to police and rescue sources, legal advisor of ASWJ along with other co-worker were shot dead at Pan Mandi, Jodia Bazaar in the precincts of Risala police station.
The incident took place at Pan Mandi Jodia Bazaar old city area where 33-year-old Mohammad Ali alias Mama was targeted when he along with 22-year-old Mohammad Noman were on way to home from court in a rickshaw. Resultantly, both received bullet wounds and succumbed to their injuries during treatment at Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). The culprits managed to flee from the scene within minutes.
SHO Abid Hussain Shah said the deceased Mohammad Ali was a resident of Memon Society Lyari while the victim Noman was living at Moosa Lane Baghdadi. He said that both victims, who were the activists of ASWJ, were assaulted at Pan Mandi while returning home from City Court.
Meanwhile, ASWJ spokesman Maulana Taj Hanfi said the victim Mohammad Ali was the legal advisor of ASWJ Karachi division and also the chairman of ASWJ Core Committee, while Noman was the member of Core Committee. He said Mohammad Ali had been serving as legal advisor for three years and a father of two daughters, while Noman was unmarried. He also condemned the said killings and demanded of the government to take responsible persons to task.
Following the said incident, miscreants took to the streets and resorted to heavy gunshots and forced shopkeepers of all major markets including Jodia Bazaar, Abdullah cloth market, Khajoor Bazaar, Timber markets and other areas to pull down their shutters. Later, heavy contingents of police and rangers were deployed to bring the situation under control.
A police constable was gunned down at Ghausia Baloch Area Orangi Town in the limits of Pakistan Bazaar police station. The incident took place early Tuesday where a 31-year-old Shahid Khan son of Iqbal Khan was targeted when he was on his way to home in Orangi Town, Sector J, Chandni Chowk on his bike. He received a single bullet on his chest and died on the spot.
DSP Mominabad Tariq Malik suspected that he might have been murdered over resistance during robbery bid as police found his pistol near his body. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities. The DSP said the victim was deployed in Special Security Unit (SSU) Hassan Square and at the time of incident he was on the way to home from duty. The deceased was the father of three, he added.
Later, police handed over the body to the heirs. Funeral prayer was offered at Sector 11 where SP Site Akram Abro and other officials of SSU were present. He was buried in Tauheed Colony graveyard. Police have registered an FIR 15/12 against unidentified persons on the complaint of his brother-in-law Safeer Alam.
Another man was shot dead in Mansehra Colony Landhi in the limits of Sharafi Goth police station. The victim, who has been identified as Zal-e-Khan, 52 son of Jahay Khan, a resident of Agra Taj Colony Lyari was gunned down over land dispute while selling plot at Sharafi Goth area.
The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico legal formalities. Duty Officer ASI Akbar Khan said the victim used to run a estate agency and was killed by his clients over land dispute. He added that the victim was the father of six and hailed from Waziristan. Later, police handed over the body to the heirs. No case was registered till filing of this report.
A bullet-riddled body of a man was found near Nigar Cinema in the jurisdiction of Kharadar police station. The identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained, while police found his body from Lea Market near Nigar Cinema. SHO Ejaz Khokar said the victim's hands and legs were tied with ropes and he was hit by single bullet in his head. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for legal formalities and later moved to Edhi Morgue for identification.
He said the victim, who wore Shalwar Kameez, appeared to be Katchi speaking. A case was registered against unidentified men on the complaint of the State and initiated probe in this connection. In another incident, a youth was killed by a stray bullet during wedding at New Karachi in the limits of New Karachi Industrial area police station.
The incident took place at Sector 11-F New Karachi where some persons resorted to aerial firing to celebrate the wedding ceremony of their friend. Meanwhile, a stray bullet penetrated in the head of Waqas, 32 son of Javed, who succumbed to his injures on the spot.
After committing the crime, a gunman namely Rehan managed to flee from the scene. The body was shifted to ASH for legal formalities. SHO Ishtiaq Ghauri said the father of the groom Abdul Qayyum was taken into custody, as the accused Rehan was friend of his son. He said the accused Rehan resorted to firing with his repeater in a drunken state that led to this incident. He said the victim, who was the resident of same area where the incident took place, was employed in a garment factory. No case was registered till filing of this report.
