'Economy suffers $68 billion losses in 10 years'

Pakistan's society and economy has been badly affected due to terrorism activities and for the last three years more then 3,000 incidents took places across the country and economy suffered losses over $68 billion since 2010. These views were expressed by the speakers at a seminar held at Agriculture University Faisalabad on Monday jointly organised by the survivors of the terrorism incidents occurred in Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country.
According to speakers the terrorism in Pakistan has become a major and highly destructive phenomenon in recent years. The annual death toll from terrorist attacks has risen from 164 in 2003 to 3318 in 2009, with a total of 35,000 Pakistanis have been killed as of 2010. The direct and indirect economic costs of terrorism during 2000-2010 have stood at $68 billion.
Head of Forestry Department of the University, Professor Tahir Sidduqie stated that terrorists do not belong to any religion or country rather damaging Islam and Muslim by killing innocent people on the name of Islam. He said Allah has given clear message in Quran that "killing of a human is killing of humanity".
hus in such scenario how the terrorists claimed that their act of killing poor innocent people was justified, he said. Waqar Kahlid, a survivor of a terrorist incident happened in 2009 International Islamic University Islamabad, sharing his experience stated that his two friends died and he was injured in the incident.
"After surviving from that tragic incident of my life I decided to fight against terrorism by creating awareness among the youth", he said adding that since then he conducted 12 seminars on this subject in different parts of the country including Kashmir, Punjab and Islamabad.
Nawab Sher, who lost his younger brother in one of such tragic incident in KPK, sharing his miseries stated that it was the worst ever wound received by their family. He said since they lost their younger brother their family was not come to normal life.
Fasial, a student of the university, said that there were total more then 3318 incidents took places for the last three year out of which 1,157 acts of terrorism during 2008-09 and 1,331 incidents of terror during 2009-10. The rest of the incidents occurred on this year. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province bore the brunt of suicide attacks, which killed 1,524 people in the region. Punjab recorded 605 deaths, Sindh 134, Islamabad 125 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 11 deaths.-PR
