Eight public sector universities including Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan signed a historic memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the development and promotion of education at the Islamia University Bahawalpur on Tuesday. This significant document relates to the establishment of inter-varsity consortium for growth of social sciences, arts and humanities.
The areas of co-operation, under the consortium, include faculty development/exchange as adjunct faculty members, exchange of students and publications, joint research projects, joint linkages with other international and national organisations, joint seminars/conferences and workshops, diploma course on civic/human rights education and other programmes of mutual interest. The eight institutes included the Quaid-e-Azam University (Islamabad), University of Gujrat (Gujrat), Shah Abdul Latif University (Khairpur), Government College University (Faisalabad), University of Balochistan (Quetta), Institute of Management Sciences (Peshawar), Bahauddin Zakiya University (Multan) and Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Bahawalpur).
The MoU was signed by Islamia University of Bahawalpur Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar, Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Masoom Yasinzai, University of Gujrat VC Professor Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin, Shah Abdul Latif University Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Abdullah Phulpoto, Government College University Faisalabad Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Zakir Hussain, Bahauddin Zakiya University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Khawaja Muhammad Alqama, Institute of Management Sciences Peshawar Acting Director Dr Muhammad Mohsin Khan, Higher Education Commission Executive Director Dr Sohail Naqvi and National Commission on Development of Social Sciences Chairman Dr Nasser Ali Khan.
A large number of academicians, scholars, members of civil society and dignitaries from social and political circles termed the development as a catalyst for the progress of higher education in the country. With the set-up of this consortium, the sector of social sciences will be strengthened.
