The Upper House of the Parliament Monday adopted a unanimous resolution, seeking immediate arrest of former president General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) on arrival in Pakistan besides registering a case under Article 6 of the Constitution. The resolution was moved by Pakistan People's Party (PPP) stalwart Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, Afrasiab Khattak, Professor Khurshid Ahmed, Dr Abdul Malik, Raja Zafarul Haq, Hasil Bazenjo and Dr Khalid Soomro.
The resolution recalled that Musharraf, twice held the Constitution of Pakistan in abeyance and brought into disrepute the judiciary and removed, ridiculed and arrested judges of the superior courts. Musharraf aided, abetted and is accomplice in the murders of late Benazir Bhutto and Nawab Akbar Bugti, it said, adding that he has committed numerous crimes of a criminal nature against people of Pakistan. According to resolution, his policies and use of state force in Balochistan led to loss of innocent lives and further sponsored disappearance of its citizens that he compromised vital national security interests through clandestine deals and unwritten agreements with foreign governments.
His economic policies widened the economic disparity between the various classes of people, the resolution added, created monopolies, promoted cartels and gave rise to crony capitalism. It also emphasised that he destroyed the federal structure, ringed on provincial autonomy, reduced the share of the provinces in the NFC Award and gave rise to horizontal and vertical polarisation.
"Therefore, the House resolves that for these amongst other facts, reasons, acts, breaches and grounds he be arrested immediately on arrival in Pakistan and the federal government institutes a case under Article 6 of the Constitution against him", it added.
