Tax records: Chief Commissioners of LTUs, RTOs told to ensure proper scrutiny
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed the Chief Commissioners of Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) to ensure proper scrutiny of tax records before allowing adjustment of refund against income tax demands made from the taxpayers.
In this connection, the FBR has issued instructions to the field formations to improve collection through arrear and income tax demand. According to the FBR's instructions to the field formations, the outstanding current and arrear demands were discussed during the last Chief Commissioners conference and in view of the not up to the mark position the FBR has taken some decisions.
It was decided that the efforts be made by the Chief Commissioners for improving the collection out of arrear and current income tax demands. Secondly, proper scrutiny as per law has to be followed while giving adjustment of refund against demand. This has to be ensured by the Chief Commissioners during ongoing third quarter of 2011-2012 in general and in the month of January, 2012 in specific, FBR's instructions added.
