President, Awami National Party (ANP), Asfandyar Wali Khan, on Thursday said that his party would oppose any unconstitutional move. "We would not favour any illegal and unconstitutional step taken under the garb of rule of law," the ANP leader said while talking to media persons after ANP's parliamentary party meeting at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House here.
Asfandyar said the constitution clearly elaborated the powers of every institution and hoped that no institution would overstep its limits. "If any such thing happens, the ANP would strongly oppose it," he added. He said that due to prevailing internal and external situation, the country could not afford political instability. "ANP's top priority is to defuse any possible confrontation between institutions," he added.
Asfandyar Wali said that ANP would continue supporting the government. "We do not back the clash among the national institutions," he said, adding that no institution would be allowed to do anything against the constitution. Replying to a question regarding the resolution to repose confidence in President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, the ANP chief said the party would read the draft first, if any such resolution was tabled. To a question he said that there was no point of no-return in politics.
