Consul General of the United States in Karachi, William Martin has announced $10 million for education in Balochistan. A statement issued on Thursday said that William Martin, the United States Consul General in Karachi, visited Dureji village, Balochistan.
He was received by the Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, Mohammad Aslam Bhootani. The Consul General announced that the US government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has approved $10 million to help rebuild flood-damaged primary and secondary schools in Balochistan. "These funds will have a tremendous impact on education by rebuilding scores of schools for the future generation of Balochistan," he added.
This initiative will also provide educational supplies, safe drinking water, and temporary classrooms so that students can continue their education uninterrupted, Martin further remarked. He visited the small dams of Uthandro and Thalnga, where the Executive Director of the Irrigation Department of Balochistan briefed the Consul General on the structure of the dams and their beneficiaries, especially in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
The Consul General and Speaker Bhootani also visited the Girls Model Primary School. Talking to children of the school, the Consul General remarked, `There is no better investment in your future than your education'. Speaker Bhootani hosted lunch for the Consul General at his home, which was also attended by elders of the Bhootani tribe and government officials.
USAID Deputy Regional Director Randy Hatfield, Public Affairs Officer Kevin Murakami, and Political Officer Anne Bennett accompanied the Consul General on his visit to Dureji. Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Martin remarked, "It is a pleasure to visit Balochistan and be able to enjoy the generous hospitality of the people there. I thank my friend Speaker Bhootani for inviting me to visit him in his hometown".
