Doctors' of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday called off strike after the government assured to probe into the killing of renowned Cardiologist, Dr Said Jamal Hussain through forming a judicial commission and provision of security to doctors at all major teaching hospitals of the province.
The provincial government had accepted doctors' demands for provision of security, Dr Shah Sawar, President, Provincial Doctors' Association (PDA) told a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club. Flanked by the association General Secretary Dr Waseem Anwar, Dr Arshad Khan, Dr Kamran, Dr Nadir and Dr Jabar, he said that the government had assured to move a summary to constitute an independent judicial commission to investigate into the killing of well-known Cardiologist, Dr Jamal Hussain.
He added that another summary was also prepared to devise of comprehensive security plan for doctors' and protection measures at all major hospitals along with periphery health units in the province. He said the government had assured to constitute the judicial commission within next two to three days to probe into the killing of Dr Jamal. He added that Provincial Doctors Association, Security experts along with other relevant stakeholders will hold meeting to devise tentative security strategy for the doctors in the province.
Dr Shah Sawar said that the well- organised groups had involved in kidnapping and killings of doctors' in the province, which needs to dealt for prevention such unforeseen incidents in future. The PDA, he said, had always raised the security issue with the government, but undermined their proposals and recommendations in this regard. He apologised for those who had suffered during three-day doctors' token strike against the killing of Dr Said Jamal, saying that they didn't aim to create problems for patients, but the doctors' protest was against the government, which failed to provide security to them.
