As Vice President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry from Pakistan, it is my pleasure to greet and congratulate the President of SAARC CCI, Mr Annisul Huq and the Governing Council of Convention on organising LEAD 2012 Youth in Rising South Asia: Dreams and Promises, 2011 and wish it all success.
SAARC CCI has touched the right sectors of the society at the right time. I believe SAARC Nations should invest more to educate and empower women, as they can contribute to economic growth and help reduce poverty. Educated women can create educated children. Women earning more can help family better and afford more for their children. They don't pass poverty on their children.
I believe gender equality in education and employment is essential for SAARC countries to grow, as women are the world's greatest under-utilised resource today. Gender parity is, however, improving at primary and secondary school levels, and young women are more literate than their male counterparts.
Similarly role of Youth can not be ignored in SAARC countries and they are always regarded as agent of change. We should motivate our youth to choose livelihood options related to Sustainable Development. The nation's building is highly dependent on youth. Youth is that powerful resource, which can either construct or destruct the whole nation as already said. According to me, it is time that our youth should step forward to take up on the responsibility. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the President and his team for organising the Convention on a very important theme and at an appropriate time. I wish the convention every success.
