This Convention Lead 2012 is a tremendous leap forward for SAARC because Regional integration and growth will not happen with out the private sector, Women Entrepreneurs and Youth. I have no doubt it will be the private sector which will drive us beyond the geographic bounds of SAARC strictly and ask us to think more energetically about the wider Asia, about ASEAN and ECO and a world of opportunity out there for South Asia The youth of every country are its valuable human resource.
The responsibility for change, progress and innovation lies on their shoulders. There has always been a tussle between tradition and modernity and the youth have often been misunderstood by the elders. The elders feel that, being immature and inexperienced, the youth usually indulge in thoughtless activities. However, I believe that the youth have the zeal to initiate revolutions.
I also believe that the touchstone of the morality of a nation or a society is the way it treats its women. Women are a vital segment of any society. Without their unhindered participation in all spheres of national life, no nation can march towards its cherished goals of economic, political and moral progress or aspire to earn a respectable place in the comity of nations.
The time has come to move away from 'fancy rhetoric' and give way for action and relentless effort in our resolve to achieve the collective aspirations of all of us and this convention is providing a big opportunity for this. At the end I once again wish the Convention all success.
