Ban on mobile phones in schools, colleges: parents heave a sigh of relief

Parents heaved a sigh of relief after the resolution passed in the PA pertaining to a ban on use of mobile phones by students in government schools and colleges and said that government should strictly implement these restrictions. However, students have strongly reacted and criticised the decision describing it illogical.
Talking to this scribe, a FSc student, Shagufta said that the students should at-least be allowed to carry a mobile phone and if a ban has to be placed, it could be placed on the use of phones during lectures and in classrooms. She explained that her mother is ill, therefore, she has to remain in contact with her when she is outside the house.
A lecturer at a college Sanawar Ali Awan said that no doubt mobile phones are diverting students' attention from education. He said that several educational institutions have already put a ban on the use of mobile phones in colleges, hence, there was no need of a resolution to be passed in this regard in the PA.
Separately, mother of a student said she is in favour of the ban however, she added, mobile phones have become a necessity. She said that the law and order situation in the country is getting worse day by day and in such a scenario students should be equipped with mobile phones in order to stay in contact with their family members.
