The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) has launched a program on 'Supporting Pro-poor Governance for Legal Empowerment (Pro-GOLE) for Marginalised Businesses'. A good number of representatives from the small business associations attended the ceremony here on Wednesday.
Smeda General Manager Business and Sector Development Services Sultan Tiwana said the project would be executed in 12 districts--Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Mianwali, Muzafargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Khushab, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bhakkar--including 7 worst flood-affected districts of Punjab.
He said that Smeda has been selected for implementation of the regional pilot project among more than 22 countries of the world after endorsement of its proposal by UNDP. The program will also support generation economic opportunities and economic protection in the province, he said, adding that all government departments, like Labour, LDA, legal service providers, Court Bar Associations, Chamber and Trade Associations, NGOs, social enterprises and academia would be taken on board for effectiveness and viability of the program.
National Project Manager Shaheen Tahir gave a detailed presentation on the program and said that four legal aid centres would be established for small Marginalised businesses, 10 for trade associations. Ten centres would be set up under the project for corporate business associations. He again said that Smeda has been selected for executing regional pilot project from 22 countries.
