Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) have agreed to initiate SMS service for voters' verification from February for which an MoU has also been singed with Telecom sector. The people can check their names in electoral rolls by sending their CNIC number through mobile SMS.
Nadra Deputy Chairmen said that Nadra has started work to prepare new electoral rolls and for this purpose 5000 private workers are being hired by the authority. He said that Nadra has cancelled Saturday/Sunday holidays for the employees so that the database for new electoral lists could be completed timely. He said that the service would be started in February after completing the Primilery Electoral Rolls (PER). "People can send their particulars through SMS to verify their names in the electoral lists, he added.
On the orders of Supreme Court the ECP has to give a comprehensive report pertaining to the Final Electoral Rolls. ECP asked Nadra to prepare database for new electoral rolls. He said that Nadra has closed evening centres for general public to ensure quick completion of new electoral rolls.
