The Lahore High Court here on Tuesday directed Assistant Commissioner Model Town and Secretary Kotlakhpat Fruit and Vegetable Market Committee to reopen the entry and exit points of walls constructed by city district government.
The Court was hearing a contempt of court petition seeking action against secretary market committee and assistant commissioner model town, which stopped the petitioner shopkeepers from running their business after building walls on entry and exit points of the market.
Petitioners Chaudhary Yaseen and others submitted that they were running business in the market according to rules and regulations. The LHC had already granted permission to them to continue their business, but market committee administration and city district government are creating hurdles in their business. Government officials not only made an illegal operation and took away their goods along with them but also constructed walls at entry and exit points of the said market.
Secretary Market Committee Abdul Waheed and Assistant Commissioner Model Town Irfan Memoon appeared before the Court. Memoon told the Court that he had not ordered to build the walls at the entry and exit points of the market. Waheed, however, apologised and said that walls had been built to stop increasing complaints of theft. The Court disposed of the petition with directions to demolish the walls and not to create any hurdle for the shopkeepers.
