Chief Coordinator and former Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Ijaz Khokhar said that trade with India will accelerate the pace of exports and support in opening of new vistas of technical know how as well as promote tourism industry.
In an interview with Business Recorder here on Sunday he said that the impact of trade pact between the two neighboring countries would help in bringing closer the business communities and provide an opportunity of face-to-face interaction. Both the countries should demonstrate highly flexible attitude in granting visa to the exporters and traders and each side should positive mindset for making successful trade, he suggested.
Ijaz pointed out that flexibility in visa policy would play a multi-dimensional role not only in boosting trade but also promote tourism industry of both the countries adding that tourism industry could play an instrumental role in introducing the products and supportive in generating revenue. The promotion of regional trade between Pakistan and India will be supportive in enhancing the volume of bilateral trade from US 2 billion dollars to US 6 billion dollars, he disclosed.
Ijaz said that trade agreement would curtail the chances of smuggling and helpful for both the countries in collecting taxes countries and shorten the possibilities of inflation while it will open in new vistas of prosperity and development and help out in searching new trade markets in the region. Ijaz disclosed that there was great demand of Pakistani made Lawn, Jean, Shalwar and Kurta and these items are very popular among the male and females in India.
The business communities of Pakistan and Indian are very keen in promoting the trade activities with the concept of enhancing bilateral trade volumes and to find out new trade venues, he said. Ijaz said that there was a close contact of PRGMEA with the Clothing Manufacturers Association India and Apparel Export Promotion Council India and PRGMEA members will take part exhibition which would be held in Mumbai adding that we are making adequate efforts for displaying Pakistani products in the exhibition.
Pakistan and India should also consider on land routs for speedy transportation exportable cargo and necessary custom staff should be deputed on boarder for monitoring the process, he suggested. Expressing the hope he said that both the governments would show responsible attitude in formulating visa policy for the promotion trade activities.
