Socio-economic uplift of womenfolk: UK assures support to government

The Minister of Women & Equality UK, Theresa May has said that UK would extend its all-out support to the Pakistan for the socio-economic uplift of womenfolk and addressing the impediments confronting the gender equality. She said this while talking to Women Parliamentarians here in Parliament House, in a meeting along with British High Commissioner and other delegates.
She said that UK acknowledges the proactive policies of the present democratic dispensation towards uplift of womenfolk and paid rich tributes to the visionary leadership of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. May said that she was a staunch supporter of women rights and womenfolk in Pakistan was given extended role in national affairs in her tenure as Prime Minister, adding that her discourse with Women Parliamentarians was an ideal opportunity, which coincided with the International Day to end violence against women.
Dr Nafisa Shah, Secretary General Women Parliamentary Caucus welcomed the visiting delegates and said that violence against women was a condemnable act, whether it occurs in private or public. She said that womenfolk comprise a large portion of the country's population and denial of their unalienable rights was neither permitted by Islam nor the universally acclaimed human rights. She appreciated the support of UK for women uplift in Pakistan.
She apprised the visiting dignitary about the laws passed by the present parliament for prevention of violence against women and ensuring their economic and social rights, which were the initiatives of the WPC. Later on the British delegates and women Parliamentarians jointly singed the declaration on the international day to end the violence against women and girls.-PR
