I am pleased to know that the Institution of Engineers Pakistan, on 63rd year of its existence, has organised the 44th Convention at its Lahore headquarters. Records show that during its long history, the Institution and its members have contributed largely towards Pakistan's growth, development and prosperity.
Given the impact of global challenges, there is an urgent need for increased contribution by the professional engineers towards meting aspirations of the nation for improving socio-economic conditions. This requires constant and dedicated efforts. Our country has the largest base of professional, technical and human resource in the country and there is a need to fully exploit these resources for the benefit of common man.
I impress upon the Institution to deploy all its resources to augment its capacity and capability to help in achieving self-reliant economy, besides launching engineers community-based programs. An international seminar on "Energy Problems in South Asian Countries: Causes and Solutions" has been arranged by the Institution in collaboration with the Federation of Engineering Institutions of South and Central Asia (FEISCA).
This is an appreciable initiative. In the wake of energy crisis, which has had deep impacts on economic health of the country, it is a useful decision to hold deliberations at such high professional level. It is hoped that the forum would work our pragmatic recommendations to deal with the energy shortages both in the short and long terms. The government of Pakistan looks forward to collaborating with the Institution of Engineers Pakistan to play proactive role in policymaking and planning, especially to resolve energy and water crises.
