Jamaat-e-Islami demands Zardari, Haqqani be tried under Article 6 of Constitution

The Jamaat-e-Islami Chief, Syed Munawar Hasan, demanded action in connection with Mansoor Ejaz's memo within a week and trial of President Zardari and Ambassador Husain Haqqani under article 6 of the Constitution. He was addressing a press conference at Bahawalpur on the second day of his tour there on Monday. He also addressed the Bahawalpur Bar.
The JI Chief said that sensationalism is being created in the country through artificial means. He said that all political parties have the right to hold public meetings and processions but these should not be used for mud-slinging and character assassination. Instead, these should be used for public contact.
He said that no political party is in a position to participate in elections alone. All parties are already in contact with one another. He said such contacts would increase with the announcement of elections and new election alliances would surface. Syed Munawar Hasan reiterated that the interests of Pakistan and the US clashed with each other.
The US wanted to reach the threshold of Iran and secure the resources of Central Asian states. It also desired to build India as regional policeman and cut down China's role. All this was against Pakistan's interests. As such, the US war on terror was the war of America interests and not of Pakistan. US was intensifying pressure on Islamabad for military operation in North Waziristan but such a step would be disastrous as war would spread all over the country and result in anarchy.
He urged the Army Chief to tell the nation that military operations and joining the war on terror were a blunder on our part which have resulted in drone attacks and given birth to other problems including that of the missing persons. Therefore, we should immediately pull out of this war. He said the JI's GO America Go drive was now the voice of the masses. The country is tied with the chains of foreign debt and the national budget is being prepared by the IMF because the rulers are US slaves.
