US soyabeans rose for a second straight session early on Monday, buoyed by firm cash markets and talk of interest from top soya importer China. Soyabeans bucked the weaker bias, however, with the market expecting China, which buys around 60 percent of soyabeans traded across the world, to stock up for the high-demand lunar new year break at the end of January.
The most-active January soyabean contract at Chicago Board of Trade rose 9 cents, or 0.8 percent, to $11.84-1/2, by 9:49 am CST (1549 GMT). But the contract was not far off an 11-month low reached last month. December corn lost 4 cents, or 0.6 percent, to $6.34-1/2 a bushel after finishing flat in European trading hours, and December wheat fell 6-1/4 cents, or 1 percent, to $6.10-1/2 a bushel, giving up modest early gains.
