At least four persons including a woman and a minor lost their lives in separate incidents in various parts of the metropolis here on Saturday. According to the police and rescuers, a woman and her adopted minor son were crushed to death by a loaded dumper at Gurumandar roundabout in the jurisdiction of Jamshed Quarters police station.
They said the victims were identified as Haseena, 50 wife of Abdul Salam and her adopted son Waqas, 3, son of Shafi and added that her another son Farman, 26, who was riding the bike, got injured in the accident. Following the accident, a throng of people gathered at the spot and tried to set the dumper ablaze besides beating the driver. The accident also caused a massive gridlock at M A Jinnah road. Later, heavy contingent of police and rangers reached the spot and dispersed the mob.
According to SHO Humayun Ahmed, the victims were the residents of New Karachi and at the time of incident they were on the way to meet their relatives. He said the bike of the victim collided with the dumper at the turning of Gurumandir roundabout and added that the responsible driver Hijrat Khan was arrested. No case was registered till filing of this report.
Yet another man lost his life in a road accident near two-minute roundabout, New Karachi in the limits of Bilal Colony police station. The identity of victim was yet to be ascertained; he was crushed to death by a speedy vehicle while crossing the road. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for legal formalities and later moved to Edhi Morgue for identification.
A 35-year-old man was electrocuted near Shaheen Complex in the jurisdiction of Aram Bagh police station. The victim Ata Mohammad, 35, a resident of Garden West area, was electrocuted when he was doing electric work at home near Shaheen Complex. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and later his family took his body away without completing legal formalities.
