UN Human Development Index: HDF concerned over diminution of Pakistan

Human Development Foundation (HDF) has shown concerns over diminution of Pakistan in the Human Development Index of United Nations. Pakistan was ranked 145th in the Human Development Index of 187 countries, thus dropped 20 points previously from 125th, the index represented better living conditions available to the citizens of a country.
According to the UN report, Income distribution became worsened and the environmental degradation threatened the future prospects though most of the people lived longer, were more educated and had more access to goods and services than ever before.
The Chief Executive Officer of Human Development Foundation (HDF) Azhar Saleem termed this descending trend of Human Development Index as a matter of great concern. Explaining the situation, Azhar said that there were a number of non government organisations working in different fields in Pakistan but the living conditions could not only be achieved by education, health or economic development alone.
He said that getting higher position in Human Development Index, the government also deployed its resources to maintain a co-ordinated work with NGOs for the welfare of the people. According to the 2011 rankings, India ranked 134, Bangladesh 146, China 101 while Norway topped the group with Australia in 2nd place.
Human Development Index was a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education and standards of living for countries around the globe. The CEO further stated that HDF was based on the principles of the Human Development theory adopted by the UN and applied a holistic approach to development including education, health and economic.-PR
