University of Karachi has beefed up the security at the campus, an official of the institution said on Sunday. The decision came following an incident at the campus on Thursday when a lecturer was reportedly roughed up allegedly by some students after their cars had collided.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui chaired a meeting attended by senior faculty and officials of the University. He regretted the alleged manhandling of the teacher and called for stern action against those responsible.
It was decided to beef up the security at the campus. All passes have been suspended till further orders. Powers of the Rangers at the campus have been enhanced. The personnel of the Rangers have been authorised to search the suspected persons or vehicles. Number of Rangers troops patrolling at the campus has also been increased.
The display of University identity card would be mandatory for the students, staff and the faculty. The entry of unauthorised persons or vehicles would be banned in the campus.
Visitors to campus would be issued special cards against the NICs. A specific parking lot is being established at the campus, it was further pointed out.
