CJP commends Asma's role, felicitates Yaseen Azad

The recently elected and the outgoing body of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) have shown firm commitment to establish strong nexus between the Bench and the Bar for achieving independence of judiciary. The SCBA office bearers paid a courtesy visit to the chamber of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Friday.
The CJP said that "It is indeed a matter of great pleasure to welcome all of you as newly elected and outgoing body". The former SCBA office bearers were headed by its outgoing president Asma Jahangir whereas the newly elected body was led by President Yaseen Azad.
Emphasising on the rule of law, The Chief Justice said that Bar and Bench were meant for administration of justice and there should be no rule except the Constitutionalism in a society. The Chief Justice appreciated the performance of Asma Jahangir during her tenure as the SCBA president and said she always represented the cases of legal fraternity in an articulated manner.
While felicitating the newly elected SCBA President Yaseen Azad, the CJP said that it was the time to make more efforts for the cause of legal fraternity as Azad had replaced a dynamic personality who worked well for the institution. "We should move together instead of being distracted by minor issues," the CJP said in his remarks.
Speaking on the occasion, Asma Jahangir appreciated the constructive contribution and role of the Chief Justice saying that Bar and Bench always strived to keep the flag of independent judiciary flying higher and higher. Yaseen Azad assured the Chief Justice that under his leadership SCBA would extend full co-operation to strengthen the institution.
