Teachers and students of Karachi University on Friday boycotted classes against the manhandling of Alam Shah Naqvi, a lecturer of Philosophy Department by some hooligans of a student group, demanding stern action against them. A large number of university teachers and students held a rally against the hooliganism of the students' group.
Taking notice of the incident, the Karachi University Teachers Society (Kuts) had announced to boycott all classes. KU Vice Chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim also convened an emergency meeting and constituted a committee comprising Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Nasir-u-Din, Registrar Karachi University Dr Mansoor and Student Advisor Professor Dr Ansar Rizvi to probe into the incident. He asked the committee to take stern action against the elements involved in the hooliganism.
VC severely condemned the incident and cancelled all vehicle passes issued to students till further orders. Meanwhile students' organisations also vehemently condemned the manhandling of the teacher and demanded immediate arrest of the elements involved in it. Chairman All Pakistan Muttahida Student Organisation (APMSO) Farhan Shams slammed the attack on Professor Alam Shah Naqvi by the hooligans. He demanded of Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan and VC Karachi University to take immediate action against the culprits.
Nazim Islami Jamiat Talaba KU Abdul Muqtadir Gazi also denounced the attack on the teacher and said that such type of incidents were happening on regular basis but the university administration seemed reluctant to take action against the elements involved in these incidents. "Teacher is regarded as a spiritual father of student and such type of incidents are a conspiracy to spoil the relations between teachers and students, which would be foiled with unity," he added. President Anjuman-i-Asatiza Dr Abdul Ghafoor Baloch and Secretary-General Professor Nasir Abbas said the lobbies behind such incidents could not browbeat the teacher community.
