A senior professor of the Department of Philosophy, University of Karachi (KU) was manhandled by a student on Thursday within the campus. According to details, Professor Alam Shah Naqvi was heading out of his department in his car but the passage was blocked by a motorcyclist who was talking to a girl student.
Dr Alam told the student to move out of the way. The student did not comply with. When Dr Alam got out of his car to tell him to give way, the student instead of clearing the way assaulted him along with his other associates. According to a source, Professor Alam Shah Naqvi and the student, who is affiliated with a Karachi based coalition partner of Sindh government, could not reach a compromise.
The offender is the student of Department of the commerce. Talking to Business Recorder Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) condemned the high handedness of the student. However, teachers' body has not decided yet either they are going to boycott the classes on Friday (today) in protest of professor's manhandling or to continue academics activities as per schedule. Meanwhile, vice-chancellor of Karachi University has established a committee, headed by Pro vice-chancellor Dr Nasir-u-Din to probe into the incident and sought a report in this regard.
