Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Monday reiterated its demand of immediate exemption for entire industrial sector from two weekly holidays and power and gas loadshedding to help strengthen the bleak national economy besides saving the industrial and agricultural sectors from irreparable monetary loss.
MCCI President Mian Anis A Sheikh said survival of the all countries always rely on sound economy, hence it was in the greater national interest, government should reshape its policy of load shedding and two weekly holidays to provide a chance to industry to flourish and save millions of daily wagers from job. He demanded government, in larger national interest, ought to accord top priority to industrial and agricultural sectors.
All this is hampering the industrial production in the country and ultimately lead to cut in export orders, he added. He said the industry was already facing energy crisis and the increase in prices would squeeze liquidity.
The high power, gas and petroleum tariffs had created liquidity crunch for importers of industrial raw materials, he added. He said world over, all developed and modern countries always, in case of short of gas and power, attached great importance to industrial and agricultural sector than domestic consumers. He said it would be helpful for hundred percent power and gas supply without any interruption throughout the year to meet the economic growth and export targets besides bumper crops.
He said keeping in view the business scenario world over, the high rate of mark up by banks should also be reduced to single digit for providing solace to the industry. Anis Sheikh said that an abrupt hike in gas, power and petroleum products was disturbing the manufacturers, already hard-hit by load shedding and weak rupee against dollar.
