The majority of flood-hit people have returned to their villages and towns as 50 percent of floodwater has receded in 16 flood-hit districts in Sindh. "The life is returning to normal as people are coming back to their homes and 90 percent children have started going to schools," Member National Assembly (MNA) from Mipurkhas and senior leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pir Aftab Shah Jilani told newsmen on Monday.
He said the government was making all out efforts to help people resume their normal lives. The government banks had postponed the recovery of loans in the flood affected area in the Sindh to facilitate farmers, he said, adding that private banks were requested to do so.
Pir said that seasoned loans on pass book would be given as people of Sindh had nothing to resume agriculture activity. He expressed the hope that the standing water would completely recede before the Rabi season ends, hence providing people opportunity to resume agriculture activity in Kharif season.
He said the President had also been monitoring overall situation to help people in this hour of need. "On Saturday, the president held video-conference during which he was requested to provide 80 water pumps to drain out the standing water in the district.
He said that as many as, 450,000 ration bags were distributed among the affected people in the district. Beside, he added, the Health department of Sindh government in collaboration NGOs was providing all medicines in district. Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) Manager Ghulam Murtaza Lahbar told newsmen that standing water had receded by 40-50 percent and the majority of people returned to back their homes.
