I am glad to congratulate Turkey on its 88th National Day. We pray for a self-sufficient and strong Turkey which is the 16th largest economy in the world and the 6th largest economy when compared to the EU countries. The recent earthquake in Turkey has shaken the hearts of Pakistanis and at this moment of sorrow and grief, people of Pakistan are standing by the people of Turkey.
I affirm the support and solidarity of the kind, Turkey expressed at the catastrophes of earthquake and floods in Pakistan On this National Day of Turkey, we wish our dear friends prosperity and we also wish that in the years to come we continue to grow our friendship into one which has concrete and long-lasting economic ties. This will serve to ensure that our future generations honour the foundation of the friendship that we have laid down.
Turkey will play a significant role in Pakistan's economy in the coming years. The synergies that exist between both countries are numerous and need to be capitalised on. Our sectors of interest range from Energy, construction, processed foods, dairy development, mining and communication.
In the energy sector, the Turkish companies have already invested in Pakistan, especially in the alternate energy sector, we have Zorlu Enerji. In the first phase of the project, it has invested in a 49.5 MW plant with an option to expand the operation to 300 MW. The power ship "Karadeniz Kaya Bey"is also meeting our growing electricity demand.
Pakistan and Turkey trade has increased in the past but we need to boost it from its current level up to USD 2 billion in 2012. We need to focus on the value added sector as well. Turkey has always been a friend of Pakistan's and provided assistance to Pakistan in times of crisis. We wish our brotherly country a future of success and prosperity for all its coming generations.
