Suicide jacket recovered from Essa Nagri graveyard

The frequent recovery of explosive devices during last couple of days is raising the apprehension of any possible terrorist attack in the city, as a suicide jacket was found in the limits of PIB police station on Thursday. According to police sources, the recovery of suicide jacket was made on the information of a caller that a suspicious jacket was laying in Essa Nagri graveyard.
The call resulted in an emergency drill of bomb disposal squad (BDS), volunteers and police. Acting on the information, police recovered a suicide jacket from the graveyard. SHO PIB said the explosive materials and detonators were not attached with the jacket. He suspected that some unknown culprits had unloaded explosive material from the jacket and disposed it of in the graveyard. He said the BDS officials took the jacket with them for further examination. Meanwhile, BDS sources said they had found eight PVC pipes and nuts from the jacket, which was attached with digital timer and a capacitor. They said the culprits used latest technique for making the jacket, which has a capacity to carry 4.5kgs of explosive materials. They said this jacket could have created hazardous impact in the range between 150 to 200 meters.
It is to be mentioned here that on October 19, a 28-kilogram high explosive device was recovered on the information of a car-washer from a car parked outside the parking lot of a private hospital at Jauhar Chowrangi in the remits of Sharah-e-Faisal Colony police station. Back to back recovery of explosive devices during last 15 days is ringing alarms for security agencies to take stiff measures to avert any possible terrorist attack.
When contacted, official sources in the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) said that security in the city was on high alert as they had received reports of possible terrorist attacks in the city. They said all concerned agencies were directed to ensure airtight security in the city to prevent any untoward incident. They said that LEAs had started snap checking, besides increasing the number of check posts in the city. They said that although they had received reports in this regard, there is no specific information about the targets. They said that police patrolling and snap checking were increased in the downtown and posh areas of the city as the reports hinted that these areas could be the prime targets. The reports revealed that the terrorists could target political figures, multinational organisation, officials of LEAs, media men, civil society members and personalities of disciplinary institutions, they added.
