PESCO saves Rs 425 million in purchase of transformers

Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO) has saved an amount of Rs 425 million through international bidding for purchase of transformer and breaking the cartel of transformer manufactures. This was told in the meeting of the Board of Directors (BoD) held at WAPDA House in the chair of Chairman, Hassam-ud Din Bangash.
Chief Executive PESCO, Mohammad Wali, Sardar Mohammad Tariq, Professor Syed Imtiaz Hussein Gilani , Razi-ud-Din, Nauman Wazir, Chief Engineer Operation Abdul Latif Khan, Chief Engineer Customer Services & Technical Hanan Khan, Chief Engineer Project Management Unit Malik Mohammad Sadiq Awan and DG(HR) Khurshed Ahmad Orakzai attended the meeting.
First of all company secretary presented minutes of 61st BoD, which were approvved after detailed discussion The Board of Directors hailed purchase committee's recommendation to purchase distribution transformers through international bidding and breaking the monopoly of the local manufacturers, which resultantly in saving Rs 425 million.
The board directed to avoid over-billing at all costs otherwise strict disciplinary action will be initiated as the increasing trend of over-billing or wrong billing is badly damaging the PESCO's image. BoD instructed to activate and strengthen the existing Customer Services Centers to redress the customers' electricity problems quickly and effectively and if required new Customer Service Centres may be established.
The board approved the purchase of distribution transformers, static single phase meters, static three phase meters, MDI Meters and Vehicles for field and Complaint Offices. Due to these steps consumers' problems will be redressed efficiently.
The Superintendent of Engineers SE's presented their quarterly progress to the BoD about the achievement of the targets assigned to them in 60th BoD. The BoD noted that the targets assigned were not achieved properly by the circles, which was viewed very seriously and board warned the field officers to achieve these targets by next BoD meeting, otherwise strict disciplinary action will be taken against them. New targets for next quarter were also assigned to them for reducing the line losses and increasing the recovery.
The board also directed the company to prepare a balance sheet of each sub-division showing profit and loss of the sub-division directed carrying more load shedding on high loss feeders (Electricity stealing Areas) and Minimum load shedding on the feeders where there is no stealing.
The board also directed for taking all possible steps to eliminate the Kunda culture and severe steps should be taken against the people involved in illegal use of Electricity. BoD directed that the details of FIRs on which no action has been taken yet, should be provided to board, so that the matter could be taken up with the Provincial Government. BoD was optimistic to make PESCO 'consumer friendly company' for which the PESCO has to redress the public complaints at their door steps.
