TORONTO: Canada's main stock index edged higher in early trade on Thursday, with gains for energy and mining companies offsetting losses for marijuana producers and a dip in Shaw Communications Inc after it reported disappointing quarterly earnings.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was up 24.53 points, or 0.15 percent, at 16,272.48 shortly after the open.
