'Government providing relief to rain-hit people'

Director General Health Services, Sindh has said that government would continue to provide health facilities to hundreds of thousands of people affected due to heavy monsoon rains in Sindh. He informed that up till now, 148,963,6 patients have been treated in 39 fixed and 29 mobile medical camps by 298 doctors/paramedical staff.
He further informed in his report, issued to this office, that most of the people in the affected areas are suffering from skin diseases, whereas 40,911 patients of skin diseases have been treated. Besides, 185,814 patients of diarrhoea, 267,814 patients of acute respiratory infection, 52,661 patients of dysentery, 73,115 patients of eye infection and 855 patients of snakebite have been treated.
The DG health informed that 6,627 patients' malaria tests came positive and 28,4272 people were suspected of malaria. He said that till October 23, 2011 as many as 540 people got injured and 115 died in rain-related incidents in Sindh. He further said that anti-malaria spray and fumigation as well as immunisation of children and pregnant women is also being carried out in the areas.
