Message from Prime Minister Azad Government of the State of Jammu and Kashmir

Today the government and people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir are celebrating the 64th independence day of the State. On this occasion, I extend my heartiest facilitations to the people. Today, we are independent and free to live our lives. This is the fruit of the sincere efforts and struggle of our brothers and sisters who remained dedicated to their just cause.
On 24th of October, 1947, Kashmiri people, exercising their right to decide about their future, decided to accede to Pakistan. We are living in a free State but at the same time we should not forget our brothers and sisters who are fighting against oppression for the last 63 years. They are hopeful that one day they would win the right to self determination. Kashmir is the base camp of the freedom struggle in Indian Occupied Kashmir and I assure my fellow country men that base camp will utilise all its resources for the success of freedom movement. The moral, diplomatic and political support from Pakistan has brought great confidence, determination and support to our cause. Pakistan's foreign policy has played a vital role in highlighting the issue to international level. The leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani has taken solid measures to highlight the issue. We appreciate the world's community's efforts to mark the conflict as a burning issue. In this regard, the discussion of Kashmir issue in the British Parliament and European Parliament is indeed encouraging to the freedom fight. Hope is still alive and optimism has not yet faded away. I want to make this clear to the world that Kashmiri people cannot be denied of their birth right of liberty through occupation and oppression. People of Indian held Kashmir have laid their lives for the cause and still they are willing to continue the movement with same spirit and with the help from Almighty, freedom will soon dawn upon them.
While celebrating this historical day with joy, we are aware that we have to continue the process of development and progress that started 64 years back.
