Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani here on Sunday stated that with election of Pakistan in UN Security Council the notion of the country being isolated in international scenario should wither away. He said this in the company of PML-Q leaders Shujaat Hussain, Pervaiz Elahi and others.
He cited recent statement of President Hamid Karzai in which he stated that in case of attack by US, or India, it would support Pakistan, and said that this was ample proof of Pakistan's successful foreign policy. He also mentioned about support of India in the Security Council election and support of European Union in international affairs as success of the foreign policy of Pakistan.
The prime minister asked the Punjab leadership of PML-N to show political maturity and performance in the province. He said that in the case of appointment of NAB Chairman opposition's advice was sought, but seeking of advice does not mean appointing the person on their advice.
The Prime Minister also mentioned enforcement of Bangladesh model by certain political circles, saying that even this model has been rejected in Bangladesh itself.
Mentioning about his tenure where he claimed there were no political prisoners, he said cases were framed in the tenure of Saifur-Rehman where he was also victim of false cases. He rejected rhetoric of corruption by certain political quarters as false asking these elements to show performance and abide by democratic dictums.
About next elections he said they would be held in 2013, PPP would run in collaboration with allied parties. He said even in Senate elections they would consult with PML-Q and other allied partners.
On holding free and fair future elections in the country he said that there is an autonomous impartial Election Commission, which would take care of that. He stated that judiciary was free and independent and all the institutions in the country were running within the ambit of constitution.
The Prime Minister stated that people were now sick of politics of agitation and want the country to take the path of progress. Referring to politics of Imran Khan he stated that it was the choice of the people to elect future leadership of the country. He said that he was indebted to PML-Q for support on the issue of province of southern Punjab, adding that he would be happy for support of Nawaz Sharif on the issue. He said that PML-N should respect the mandate of other political parties, and added that rule of democracy should prevail in the country. Punjab Governor Latif Khosa was also present on the occasion.
